Back to some more of Loubet’s work. I was particularly attracted to how graphic and strong this set of drawings was. I’m learning a tremendous amount about Loubet’s different styles from this project, I’m happy.

Faxanadu – Ideation
Reference Image
I wasn’t happy with yesterday’s sketch, but today’s was even worse. *shrug* Just not feeling it today for some reason. I think the pressure of having to sit, eat, and sketch in an hour window sometimes just doesn’t work so well when there are outside forces trying to make demands of that time.
Hey look, I used a pencil!
Faxanadu – Two Monsters
A very loose interpretation of the first two monsters you encounter in Faxanadu.
Garlic Study

Another food study. As you can see, I was fairly amused by the ambiguity of the images. The top right image was another of Denis Loubet’s from the Ultima game manuals. I did his version last so I could have more of my own feel on the first two.

Metroid – Samus

Well this is by far my worst sketch so far. The proportions are entirely out of whack. This is why I like to spend around 30 minutes warming up before I draw. (or, you know, use a grid system)
The Legend of Zelda – Assorted Instruction Manual Images
When I was a kid, I was amused by the pseudo-chibi style images found in the instruction manual for The Legend of Zelda for the NES.
Today, I decided to draw a smattering of inventory items, more or less true to their original style, and an iconic tree gate thinger (dungeon entrance) interpreted from the 8-bit graphic. I discovered that I rather enjoy interpreting 8-bit images into original illustrations.
